n. & v. --n. 1 an entry in an account recording a sum owed. 2 the sum recorded. 3 the total of such sums. 4 the debit side of an account. --v.tr. (debited, debiting) 1 (foll. by against, to) enter (an amount) on the debit side of an account (debited {pound}500 against me). 2 (foll. by with) enter (a person) on the debit side of an account (debited me with {pound}500).
